Dubbo police have arrested three people for their alleged involvement in a series of drive-by shootings that occurred in the city four years ago.
The shootings happened in November 2004 at a residence in Wheelers Lane and the clubhouse of bikie gang, the Rebels.
Two months later, in January 2005, a residence at Mogriguy was also sprayed with bullets.
Detectives arrested 37-year-old Darrell John Wright last Friday and charged him with three counts of firing at a dwelling with disregard to safety.
He was refused bail to appear back in Dubbo Local Court in September.
Yesterday, two more people were arrested during a raid on a Mogriguy property and charged for their alleged involvement in the shootings. A 49-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man - both from Mogriguy - were also charged with firearm offences as well as conceal serious offences, and are expected to front Dubbo Local Court today.
A number of items were also seized from the property, which was entered during a search warrant, but police could not disclose what those items were.
A ballistics dog was used during yesterday’s raid.
Detective Sergeant Adrian Tighe spearheaded Strike Force Boorabie, formed in July 2007 by local detectives in collaboration with the State Crime Squad to investigate the shootings.
Acting crime manager for the Orana Local Area Command, Detective Sergeant Mark Meredith, praised Dubbo detectives involved in Operation ‘Boorabie’ and those who had been investigating the incidents since 2004.
He said the items seized during yesterday’s raid would be examined and compared with evidence gathered over the past four years.
“A large amount of time is taken to review the evidence before us - those reviews involve forensic examination, ballistic investigation and results, DNA investigation and results - and the analysis of that evidence takes a fair while,” Mr Meredith said.
He also said police were stretched in 2004 investigating a number of serious offences, including murders, when questioned about the time that had elapsed since the shootings.
“We’re happy with the arrests made last week and today for serious crimes committed in our city a few years ago,” he concluded.
