Dubbo is on the map of the world of reality television with two local girls chosen as contestants for the latest Big Brother series.
There is 22-year-old Renee Black, who is a familiar face at Fletcher International Export and mental health worker Dixie Crawford, 21.
Both girls have had stints in the local women’s rugby team - the Rhino Sheilas - at various times and both have families who say they couldn’t be prouder.
Samantha Black described her sister Renee as “very loud, straightforward and funny”.
“She is very sporty, she’s played rugby, Oztag and touch footy,” she said.
“We’re all definitely really excited, we were all jumping around (Monday) night.”
Samantha said they were all feeling a bit nervous before Renee made her debut on Monday, but thought the local lass went well.
“Everyone’s over the moon, she is very easy to get to know, loyal - a very good friend.”
Samantha said her sister didn’t really think through her decision to audition for the show through, saying it was more a “random thought” that ran through her mind at the time.
Renee told Big Brother she auditioned “purely” because she was dared to, “and in no way did I think we’d get this far”, she said.
Roxanne Crawford said her sister, Dixie had already made her family very proud.
“We’re really, really excited for her,” she said.
“She’s very straightforward, very easy-going, I hope (Australia) will take a liking to her.”
Roxanne said their family was close-knit and this could be the longest period Dixie has spent away from them.
She spends two weeks away at university every month where she is studying to obtain her degree in mental health.
Family members, including her mother, spent Monday night watching the show from a hotel room in Sydney.
Roxanne said Dixie auditioned for “life experience and to meet lots of people”.
“She’s outgoing and fun to be around - I’d like to see her go all the way,” she said.
Dixie told Big Brother she auditioned for something different and confessed she was “a little bit on the mad side”.
“I’ve kind of had the same lifestyle for the last three years and just wanted to have a go at something different,” she said.
In a snap eviction yesterday Terri was forced to make an early departure from the house.
Big Brother goes to air Monday to Friday at 7pm on Channel Ten.
Renee’s profile
Age: 22
Occupation: Abattoir Worker.
Hates: Liars, vegetables, non-indicators while driving.
Loves: Boys, grog, Coca Cola.
Best Quote (according to Big Brother): “(Barbie girls) are not approachable. I wouldn’t hang out with one of them deliberately.”
Big Brother describes local girl Renee as “not your stereotypical girly girl” who loves her job as a deboner at the Dubbo abattoir.
“A rugby playing tomboy, Renee is animated and in your face,” Big Brother said, but her sister Samantha said Renee is not “that much of a tomboy” but is very sporty.
Renee told Big Brother she wanted to avoid showing her “bottom privates” in the house and promised to be herself and “not fake like most people”.
“Renee is a fair dinkum country girl who says dishonesty is her most despised personality trait in other people,” according to Big Brother.
She described herself as funny, a good listener if she’s not talking first, annoying and jealous.
Renee said she would be likely to “be loud” to get her point across but would stand up for both sides if it wasn’t her problem.
