Wire across road damages vehicle

28/08/2008 9:58:00 AM
ALBURY police are looking for those who strung a piece of eight gauge high tensile fencing wire across Davey Road last night.

Insp John Wadsworth said the wire was wrapped around a gum tree on one side and a steel fence dropper on the other side, about 105cm high across the unsealed roadway.

A 2002 Toyota Hilux utility hit the wire and the vehicle's bullbar broke the wire with minimal damage to the vehicle.

Insp Wadsworth said the incident was alarming, given that the wire had been deliberately placed at a height that could have easily killed a motorcycle rider.

"The wire was carefully strung and well anchored in place to cause maximum injury and/or damage," he said.
