As the State’s Year 12 school students prepare for the biggest exams on the school calender, a Dubbo student has offered his words of wisdom to fellow Higher School Certificate (HSC) students.

Dubbo Christian School student Isaac Kinscher said preparing for the end-of-year exams was more than just burying your head in the books.

“It’s not the end of the world if you want to get somewhere and love it enough, you will get there another way,” he said.

Written exams start this Thursday, with business studies.

The mandatory English exams follow on Friday and Monday, October 20, with the final exam on November 13.

Isaac said combining study with a part-time job with the John Deere dealership in Dubbo is an effective way to take his mind off the stress of the exams.

Year 12 students finished school three weeks ago and Isaac said his stress levels are “quite low’’.

“I am not worried, if I don’t get the marks there is other things I can do,” he said.

“Our teachers were very helpful the week after we finished up.

“They would set us questions to test us and give us feedback.”

Apart from the compulsary subjects Mr Kinscher is studying PDHPE, design and technology, construction and physics.

The spritely young student prefers to study “hands-on subjects’’ and said he is “pretty confident’’ heading into the exams.

“I have been revising my mathematics formulas - if I have them under control, I will be fine.”

Isaac said he plans to stay in Dubbo and attend university if he gets the marks for a primary school teaching course.

“If I get the marks and early entry I will stay here, but if not I will do a TAFE course,” he said.

The HSC Advice Line 13 11 12 opened yesterday and will be available weekdays from 4pm to 10pm, saturday 10am to 6pm and Sunday 10am to 10pm.
