NOS Sprints to open season at Gilgandra

1/10/2008 11:55:00 AM
NOS Sprints and a fireworks display are the major drawcards to the 2008/09 season opener for the Gilgandra Speedway this Saturday night.

The NOS Sprints are the newest and fastest- growing division in Australian Speedway, and a field of more than 10 drivers are to set invade the Gilgandra track in their first official hit-out of the season.

Headlining drivers include Dubbo-based Craig Skene and Young-based teenager Jon McCorkindale.

Last season the NOS Sprints made an appearance at Gilgandra Speedway and it was Skene who took out the feature race honours ahead of McCorkindale and Mark Geary in second and third place respectively.

The NOS Sprints are sprint cars without front or top wing and they are powered by V6 Holden Commodore engines.

Aside from the NOS Sprints, also on the Gilgandra Speedway program this Saturday night are the Modified Production Sedans, Holden VS Ford Street Stocks, Junior Sedans, and the ‘Crash and Bash’ Fender Benders. In the Junior Sedans there is a number of drivers travelling from as far as Lismore to compete and get some early laps under their belt before their season officially kicks off.

Organisers expect plenty of action and say there is no better place to be this Saturday night than at Gilgandra.

The fireworks display is to commence from 8pm and racing is from 4pm.

Gilgandra Speedway is located a five kilometres south of the Gilgandra CBD, along the Newell Highway.

Entry for spectators is $17 for adults (16 years and over), $10 for aged pensioners and students aged between 12 and 16 years, and children under the age of 12 are admitted free of charge providing they are accompanied by a paying adult.
