TAEKWONDO: Orana Taekwondo (OTKD) held its term three grading for both beginners and Gup students recently.
In what was an eventful night, 30 OTKD students were put through their paces by instructors Wayne Comber (second Dan black belt) and Anthony O’Leary.
O’Leary was very impressed with the students’ growth and enthusiasm during the grading.
“The OTKD students have learned a range of skills including basic punches, taekwondo kicks, self-defence techniques and ITF patterns that are becoming more complex in technique,” O’Leary said.
“These skills were put to the test at the grading.”
All students impressed on the night.
Some notable mentions include a group of mums who started training with their children and are now developing some excellent skills.
Samantha Skinner, Julie Channels, Kelly Hannifey and Sharmayne Martin all gained their yellow belts with a fine non-stop display.
The club’s new beginners displayed determination during their grading.
James Fern demonstrated perseverance to complete all set skill requirements and Harrison Willis showed skill in performing front flying kicks.
Lane and McClay Suckling, Kane Keniry and Isabelle Willey earned their yellow tips with enthusiasm.
Twelve other students demonstrated outstanding skills and went on to gain their green belts.
These students include Jessica Riley, Sab Fardell, Teagan Percy, Toby Stewart and Jordyn Dalton who performed excellent turning kicks and showed great control with patterns.
Chloe Rosser, Kalina Davis and Brandon Mohr displayed the tenet of perseverance throughout the two hours of the grading to be awarded their yellow belts.
Special mention must go to eight-year- old twins Shaye and Deena Percy who completed their pattern Dan Gun for their green tip in front of the large audience.
