Outstanding contribution recognised

23/09/2008 10:00:00 AM
Behind the scenes in every sport, association and club are special people who more times than not fail to receive recognition for their contributions.

Dubbo netball is not one of them and on Saturday, during the premiership presentations, association president Paul Hausia called up Debby Biles for special mention and to receive the time-honoured Lillian Hawke Award for 2008.

Mrs Hawke, who died nine years ago, had a long association with netball and after her death her daughter, Pam Harris, has come along each year to present the trophy.

Debby Biles’ role has been canteen manager, looking after the needs and wants of the many players and supporters who go down to the Nita McGrath Complex each week during the season.

While the clubs themselves are rostered for duty, Debby is never far away to supervise operations.

As would be expected Debby is just one of many sporting volunteers who work for nothing.
