Pawlenko and Russell finished three shots ahead of runners-up Phil Munro and Jenna Owens on 114.

Russell said conditions for the tournament were great, with only a slight breeze to contend with.

Pawlenko and Russell have been playing together for six years and say that it’s the fun they have out on the course that sets them aside from a lot of the other teams.

“We are relaxed and we don’t take it too seriously,” Pawlenko said.

“The stroke-for-stroke format for the competition is quite difficult, so we try not to take it too seriously, have some fun and take the mistakes as they come,” Russell added.

Pawlenko and Russell have made names for themselves within the Dubbo Golf Club, with Russell taking out another ladies club championship in May and Pawlenko recently being named as the male club captain.

The two are now planning for the NSW Mixed Foursomes in Shell Harbour and Kiama next month.

It will be the fourth year in which the two have participated in the State championships and after finishing in the top 10 last year they are both hoping for a good result.

Pawlenko said talks had been going on within the local club recently to apply to host the State foursomes next year or in the near future.

“We are hoping that we may be ably to get the State foursomes here next year, which would be great for the club,” he said.
