VETERANS GOLF: The ever-consistent Reg Warren continues to impress his golfing peers in Dubbo competition.
His net 33 in Saturday’s stroke event was determined the best after a lengthy countback with six others which included Winston Granger, Col Parkes, Dave Herbert, Graeme Davis, Peter Sadler and Ray Walton.
Ball winners went down to net 36 on a countback.
Strath Stevenson (net 32), the early clubhouse leader in Friday’s stroke round, was just good enough to edge out the late finishing Bill Price after a lengthy countback.
Barry Cooper (33 c/b) claimed third spot along with the NTP on the 5th. Barry has staked a claim on this, his favourite hole. Vouchers went to net 37 c/b in a field of 55 starters.
Jim Lang survived a three-way countback and some interesting pin placements on the greens to win Wednesday’s stroke event with a net 32.
The unlucky losers, after also returning good rounds, were Gerry Dawson and Lou Doherty. In a field of 41 golfers ball winners needed net 37 or better.
In ideal playing conditions Fred Bell and John Richardson fought out a duel in Tuesday’s stableford round.
With both players locked on 24 points, a countback was required with the result favouring Fred.
Gareth Howells returned to the clubhouse with a creditable 23 points to take home third spot in a good field of 64 starters.
Vouchers went down to 17 on a countback whilst Les Taylor had the NTP on the 26th.
Handicap reductions were handed out to the placegetters along with Brian Anderson, John Dixon, Garth Ireson, Clem Long, Bill Stratford and Wayne Turner.
