Port Kembla’s Bob Harrison claimed victory in Monday’s NSW Veterans Golf Associations Individual Stableford event while Dubbo’s Naomi Brown proved the one to beat in the women’s stableford.
Despite wet conditions, almost 200 players lined up for Monday’s events and organisers couldn’t be happier with the results of the first day of the week-long competition.
Dubbo players had a very successful day on course with Lionel Noke finishing third in the men’s stableford, Barry Hillian first in men’s division one, Col Yates first in the men’s division two and Don Fraser first in division three.
Val Coggan and Del Karrell also performed well in the women’s division three.
Organiser John Dixon said he was pleased with the success of Monday’s events and visiting golfers had been over the moon with the course and competition.
“We had almost 200 players representing three different State and 18 different clubs involved in Monday’s event, it was an excellent day,” Dixon said.
“The competition is quite popular among the visiting golfers and many have made comment on the course, organisers and sponsors.”
This is the sixth year the competition has been run and Dixon said it was a great boost to local economy.
“There is plenty of money flowing into the community from this event when you consider the petrol the visitors are buying, their accommodation and meals, its great for the local economy.”
Yesterday’s events were suspended for 24 hours due to rain and will be run today.
Today’s events include the Hemingway Trophy, Western Districts Veterans Golf Associations 36 hole individual stableford round one men’s and women’s, men’s 28-32 handicap special event and men’s nine-hole vets.
