Golfers invited to play in fundraising weekend

29/08/2008 11:23:00 AM
Western NSW golfers are being invited to play alongside Jack Newton, one of Australia’s most respected golfers, in Warren on the weekend of September 6.

Jack is in town for Warren’s first Diabetes Family Awareness Golf Weekend.

The two-day event is being held to raise money for Diabetes Australia-NSW to help fund diabetes awareness, research, education and advocacy programs.

John McKay, golfing fanatic and the local farmer who organised the event, says the Warren golf challenge is the first of its type in western NSW.

“Everyone knows someone with diabetes, that’s why putting this charity golf day together made so much sense- you know you’re helping a friend,” he said.

“I’m hoping golfers everywhere take this challenge because the more golfers we have playing the more funds we will raise for this great cause.”

On Saturday September 6, teams of three divided into men’s, ladies and mixed teams will tee off at 10.30am.

There will be an all-day free barbecue and the cost for the day is $50 per team.

On Sunday September 7 teams of four will play two holes, the best team average wins. There will also be individual games, cost is $25 per person.

Saturday night a live dinner, auction and diabetes fundraiser will be held at the Warren Golf Club.

Trophies will be presented Sunday afternoon.
