Dubbo Golf Club’s annual professional tournament will take on a new look this year with a three-day event likely to attract many of eastern Australia’s top players.
After having four hours on the golf course this week with Sandy Dunshea, it wasn’t difficult to gauge his enthusiasm that the $25,000 Genesys Wealth Advisers Pro-Am on August 27 to 29 will be one of the best in country NSW.
Sandy certainly has a vested interest in the event being the Genesys representative in Dubbo and also golf club president.
His funding for the event includes support from Tower Life, Comminsure and Spectrum Superannuation.
Unfortunately last year the event was restricted to just the first day after rain with Glen Dick the winner after an eight-under-par round of 62 gave him a three-shot win over Ed Steadman and Darren Beck.
Added value this year will be having popular television presenter Ray Martin as guest speaker at the pro-am dinner on the Thursday night.
Part of this function will be the pro-am calcutta with tickets at $60 and available from the golf club.

The professionals will be playing for a prize pool of $3000 on day one, then have the Heyer Ford $1000 long drive at 4.30pm and a $1000 shootout for nearest to the pin on the 18th under lights at 6.30pm.
Both events produced some great entertainment last year and drew a big crowd.
Then we have the $25,000 tournament proper on the Thursday and Friday.
This year’s event will also be the final round of the Raine and Horne Series with the winner of that series claiming $15,000.

Dubbo club members and visiting amateurs will be well catered for during the pro-am.
The usual Wednesday men’s event will be played with two rounds of the 19-27 layout.
On the 1 to 18 course, the pro-am sponsors’ event will be played as a 4BBB stableford event.
The two professionals in each group will play together, the amateurs will do likewise. An Irish 4-ball will be played in conjunction.
Golf on the Wednesday will be from a shotgun start at 11am.

On the Thursday and Friday of the actual pro-am, groups will be made up of one professional and three amateurs.
Amateurs will be playing individual stableford and the pros stroke, with the team event being an Irish 4-ball.
Presentations for the entire three days of golf will be held on Friday after all the scores have been finalised.
Now wearing his golf club president’s hat, Sandy Dunshea said he was looking forward also to a big trading week for the club.
“It’s going to be very busy and hopefully successful for the golf club,” he said.
“While we will be catering for big numbers of players over the three days, we would like to see a lot of Dubbo people come out and see the players in action.
“To cater for those numbers there will be food and refreshments available on the course and in the club house.
“Our club professional Craig Mears has put a lot into organising the pro-am and I am certain that it will attract not only the best players, but also good support from the members.”
Tee times for the pro-am can be organised by contacting the pro shop staff on 6882 2201.
