Dubbo Ravens coach Jean Weekes is hoping for a similar effort from her players this weekend to the 1-all draw her side recorded against Bathurst St Pat’s last weekend.
The Ravens meet Orange Cougars at 3pm on Saturday at West Dubbo in the Country Energy Premier Hockey League.
They will again be understrength, losing Alisa Seton, Jess Colwell, Jessica Leach and Danielle Leach, but will have Chris Hayes, Tracey Hardie-Jones and Barb Muldoon returning to the line up.
“Last Saturday we travelled with the bare 11 players,” said Weekes.
“Goalkeeper Michaela Wheeler, who had not played for eight months, did very well standing in for regular goalkeeper Chris Hayes who was away on veteran’s duty.
“Nicole Masurrit filled in to make the eleven and did her job well running the whole game and foiling St Pat’s at every chance.
As in previous weeks we scrambled in defence with Alex Waters, Alisa Seton and youngster Danielle Leach keeping the opposition forwards out of the circle.”
St Pat’s scored first via a free hit at the top of the circle with a short pass to a player who lofted the ball into the goal shortly before half-time.
Dubbo had chances but failed to convert with shots going wide.
But early in the second half Alisa Seton put a great ball through to Deidre Day who with Emma Demarchi forced a penalty corner, from which Emma scored off with a straight shot.
“I am very proud of these girls and they keep surprising me each week,” Weekes said.
“They held strong and defiant. We usually come away from Bathurst St Pat’s on the back of a resounding defeat but this team held together and didn’t panic at all.
“Young ones Danielle Leach and Lisa Mould stepped up on Saturday and played to their potential.
The girls were run off their feet but somehow kept St Pat’s at bay.
“Katie Potter again set up plays and kept Dubbo going forward and was awarded the umpires best and fairest for the game.”
