A jockey riding plenty of winners at the present time is Kody Nestor, so when you want a tip, who better to ask.
Nestor, the central west’s leading apprentice and a young man placed third on the NSW Apprentices premiership, has five rides at today’s Dubbo TAB meeting.
He had little hesitation in nominating the Mark Jones trained Accommodating as his best ride, a chestnut gelding owned at Narromine by David and Heather Ringland.
“He won last Monday at Wellington in the heavy going and just loves the wet, so should be suited for the Dubbo track,” Nestor said.
“This gelding has raced on heavy tracks only twice and won on both occasions so he should be suited for Monday’s race.”
Accommodating will carry 58kgs from barrier 12 in race six today, but that shouldn’t be much of a concern over 1625 metres.
The five-year-old gelding has had six starts for Jones and at Wellington over 1700m was backed with confidence to start as the $3.80 favourite.
He raced up to that rating and romped in by 5-1/2 lengths from Lago’s Pick.
The Karen McCarroll trained Big Head, to be ridden by Adrian Robinson today, is another horse with form on the board and also won on its home track at Wellington.
Leading jockey Greg Ryan has stuck with Prince Zarassy from the Mark Milton yard at Gulgong. The gelding certainly wasn’t disgraced when a short half head second behind Assured at Wellington. He’s been over this distance before and at his best will be there at the finish.
Kody Nestor’s four other rides today at Dubbo are On Stilts, Fernfield and Lantuff for Bathurst trainer Gayna Williams; and Eindarab for local mentor Bradley Head.
Sporting an excellent strike rate, Nestor is the man to follow and he’s been in great form of recent times.
He won on Newton’s Rings at Rosehill last Saturday week and will return to Rosehill this coming Saturday to ride the same horse. He has also been booked for the Geurie owned Juerga.
Last Wednesday Nestor had one ride at Gosford and won on Six Stitcher and has the ride again on this horse at Canterbury on Wednesday.
At Dubbo today, the $10,000 Kings Hall Jewellers Silver Goblet 2YO Handicap (1025m) is the feature race with Wellington Boot winner Sin Sin Sin (Michael Travers) resuming from a spell and one of the main chances.
Nestor’s mount, Lantuff - a Fraar (USA) x Rincality colt, is having its first start but from a top stable should be included in multiples.
The Barlow and Monk Livestock and Property Open Handicap (1025m) will see Dubbo champion King Rex back in action with Clint Lundholm as the jockey.
King Rex will carry 66.5kgs but he’ss been our best local horse for many years and it’s always exciting to see him win.
