Greg Ryan shared the riding honours at the Warren TAB meeting with young gun Kody Nestor yesterday but it was the master himself who claimed the feature race, the $12,000 IGA Cattleman’s Cup (1400m) on the $2.40 favourite All Again.
Trained by Lesley Jeffriess at Tamworth, the five-year-old gelding went into the race as a Moree winner over 1200m three starts back but then ran a good third at the Grafton carnival before a last start sixth, beaten just 1.7 lengths at Eagle Farm a fortnight ago.
The strong support for All Again was vindicated when he won a stirring finish by a half length from the Peter McCauley, Dubbo-trained Hot Bake Clarrie (Michael Travers, $13.00) with Top Beat (Chantelle Johnson, $8.00) a length away third.
All Again’s win yesterday took his earnings to more than $97,000 with nine wins and eight placings from 29 starts.
Ryan also enjoyed success aboard Murray’s Sun ($3.80) for Dubbo trainer Bridget Jones in the Supa IGA handicap (1000m).
The $2.70 favourite, That’s Gold (Kody Nestor) was third.
Nestor however had good success earlier in the meeting when he won on Generous Huka ($2.60 fav) and Command To Smile ($4.00).
Generous Huka was the first leg of a winning double for Dubbo trainer Cindy Monaghan, while Command To Smile is prepared at Mudgee by Tracey Bartley.
Monaghan’s second winner was Top Occasion, which started at $8.00 and was ridden by Adrian Robinson.
Meanwhile, Wellington trainer Jim McMillan is enjoying a good run of success and yesterday gave bookmakers a good result when Reigning Pennies bobbed up at $15.00 in the IGA Local Heroes Maiden Handicap (1000m) with Mark Usher in the saddle.
Despite being a six-year-old, Reigning Pennies yesterday had only its second race start and is owned by the McMillan family.
The eventual winner was originally only an emergency for the race but got a run when five horses were scratched.
