City of Dubbo Turf Club officials are hoping for no rain in the next three days leading up to their seven-race TAB meeting scheduled for Monday.
Feature races will be the Silver Goblet for two-year-olds and the Open Handicap, a race headed by King Rex.
After having the original meeting cancelled a fortnight ago after rain left a wet spot in the home straight, temporary work has been done to reduce further risk on the affected area.
“We’re waiting on a report from Racing NSW who had people come up and look at our problem,” Dubbo club chairman Bob Ellis said yesterday.
“The problem hasn’t been fixed but all being well the renovation work will hold up for us to hold this meeting.
“Today (Thursday) the stewards rated the track as a slow six. We are now hoping that no rain will come.”
Ellis confirmed that no thought had been made to transfer the meeting to Wellington or Narromine, should there be a concern about racing at Dubbo.
The first race on Monday leaves the barriers at 1.20pm with free admission for punters.
“We believe we owe it to the owners and trainers with horses to hold this meeting,” turf club racing manager Mark Day said yesterday.
“As well we are encouraging everyone to come out the races with free admission.
“We will be racing against the big Port Macquarie meeting on Monday so we will find it difficult to finish with a big TAB turnover. If we can make a few dollars, then that will be a good result for us.”
