After studying at Charles Sturt University (CSU), Kangaroos Flanker Tim Berry is teaching a class of his own at Dubbo College South Campus.
Originally from Cowra, the PD/H/PE teacher moved to Dubbo in July last year after
finishing university to take up his current role at the campus.
Berry was a key player for the CSU rugby side and even had a stint in the first colts for Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs.
In his time playing rugby, Berry has also represented NSW in the under-17s.
“I had been playing cricket with a few blokes that played with the Roos so I already had connections there,” Berry said.
“They are a great club and they have made it a really easy transition for me,” he said.
Berry said the atmosphere at the Roos is a lot different to that of CSU.
“The players are a lot different,” Berry said.
“At uni I was playing with guys who were my age, but the guys at the Roos have a lot more knowledge of the game and their training’s are quite structured which is good,” he said.
Berry said he is feeling confident leading up to the grand final replay against Orange City tomorrow.
“I wasn’t playing for the Roos in the grand final last year, but the team is confident,” he said.
“We have been focusing on both our strengths and theirs to ensure we are prepared for the game,” he said.
For now Berry doesn’t have any intention of getting back into any representative rugby, but said he may look to trial for some teams next year or the year after.
“For now the job comes first,” he said.
“I am really liking where I am in terms of my career and I really want to get myself settled here in Dubbo before I focus too much on the
representative side of rugby.”
Berry said he aims on staying in Dubbo for a while.
“The staff here at South Campus are great and I am really enjoying my job.”
