Muller Park Tennis Club members competed in the club’s championship men’s and ladies doubles last Sunday.
In the ladies Robyn Rawlinson and Gladys Thornbury defended their title by defeating Robyn Roe and Neryl Chant in two sets.
Robyn and Gladys went through the day undefeated not dropping a set and were therefore hot favourites to retain their crown.
The B grade men’s event was a family affair when father and son outfits took to the courts with little separating these pairs.
The Blattman pairing of Robert and Corey took the first set 6-4 before the Lambells, Phil and Ben came back in the second set 6-4.
The third set started with both teams holding their service game before Phil and Ben took some chances and managed to break the Blattmans’ serve, then holding their own to win the third set 6-4.
The men’s A grade will have to be completed at a later date after rain stopped play with Ken Madden and Tex Giddings holding a 6-5 lead from Wes Bailey and Mick McDonagh. But this set has gone with service and there is little separating both pairings.
Next Sunday will be social tennis, which will start at 1pm. This is open to anyone who wishes to have fun and enjoy the hospitality of the club.
Members are also reminded that names are being taken for the mixed doubles to be played on Sunday, October 24.
Court roster for this Sunday, July 27 is Clive Chant and Mick McDonagh.
